Seals the rear output shaft of the transfer case, where the driveshaft enters the tailhousing. When the lip hardens or wears, gear oil weeps down the back of the transmission and onto the driveshaft.

Commonly replaced during clutch jobs, transmission removal, or center support bearing service, since the driveshaft is already out. Check and top off transmission fluid after installation.
